He subsequently joined the research staff at the Institute - a joint appointment which included a Lectureship in the Faculty of Agriculture at Queen's University Belfast. During his period at the Institute, Dr. McIlmoyle published numerous research papers, and presented papers at several International meetings.

Following a period with the Northern Ireland Agricultural Trust working on the commercial development of new techniques, Dr. McIlmoyle joined a multi-national animal nutrition company as Senior Nutritionist, providing a technical service on a wide range of products which were sold into the animal feed livestock industry throughout Ireland.

After spending seven years as General Manager for the Company in Ireland, Dr. McIlmoyle established his own Animal Nutrition, Agricultural Consultancy and Agricultural Recruitment company in 1989.

Since 1989, the Company has serviced a wide range of clients in Ireland, the UK and Internationally, including countries in the former Eastern Bloc. As a Member of the British Institute of Agricultural Consultants, Dr. McIlmoyle has access to a network of specialists and experts covering all aspects of agricultural and horticultural production.
